It was tongue in cheek. All in all I like my job, but there is a big difference between the dream I made of it while in college and the reality of being a paid musician. A couple of years ago there was an interview in the TUBA Journal with Tony Kniffen in which he discussed how much of his time with Honolulu and Indianopolis Symphonies was spent on pops concerts and the like.

I don't think there is an ultimate gig. Once at any job the newness wears off eventually and it becomes a job. A job is not a bad thing, but it is part of life. Making the most of life is the ultimate gig.
