My son, having exhausted the supply of bass clef brass instruments, has expressed a desire to "learn trumpet" (by which he means "pick one up and read through a method book this summer". So...I'm in the market for an inexpensive (not to say cheap) Bb soprano tuba. [one benefit of this exercise is that he'll learn Bb treble clef for euphonium use.]
A discarded student trumpet is the first, obvious, thought...but a used cornet in "player" condition was my second thought. A flugelhorn would probably be over budget.
Got one laying about? Know of a good source (other than "the usual suspects")? I'm looking for "no frills" - but also "no hassles/surprises".
