I agree, and I think the quality of the applicant pool has been getting weaker. (obviously, since no one was good enough this time around). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought these festivals were learning/training experiences. No one is getting salary or anything. Sure, maybe no one amazed the committee, but surely someone showed that they were proficient enough on the instrument to play the rep for the summer.
