Large Receiver on small B&H leadpipe?

Will a modern, large mouthpiece receiver for a Besson 982 fit on the leadpipe of a B & H Imperial tuba and be air tight?
I remember reading a posting in which someone said putting a modern receiver on a small leadpipe euphonium did not fit right.
I preferred not to change the small leadpipe to a new large one because I have the old small bell, and the leadpipe should match the bell size for maximum output and best response, but if I must then I will. Also, with the bigger leadpipe the tuba will play a little flatter than it already is.
I might cut the leadpipe a half inch. Do you think there would be problems if I did this?
Thanks for any suggestions. I want to tell the repairmen exactly what to do and discuss it. Bill
