I remember when I was in the 12th grade and playing in an All-State (or whatever) band...I remember the conductor was Francis McBeth, because he made some of his hilarious "lizard" faces for us right before the concert to try to help some folks be less nervous...
We played some cruddy "pop" music (maybe Sonny & Cher) medley and during the first rehearsal he asked, "Is there anyone in the band who plays the electric bass?" As I was trying to make myself as small as possible hiding behind my tuba, twenty or thirty people called out, "Joe does!!!"...
...so I had the "privilege" of being the electric-bass-schmuck on that piece.
