I read a website once--the Smith-Watkins for trumpet I believe--and it presented a study on the maximization of sound output and ease of response. to get the best in both categories the match of the leadpipe to the bell was more important than the bore size (and the mpc I guess is a smaller but relevant factor to the leadpipe-bell connection). Many people have changed the leadpipes on those isntruments while keeping the bell the same small one, and although some people say the sound is fuller, others say they don't like the way it plays (check the archives). I was considering changing the bell until I found out the cost; then I was considering changing the leadpipe until I read that website. Now I will try to change only the receiver. Perhaps some people do not notice any difference in the response or output when they change the leadpipe and not the bell. Good luck. Bill
