I've paid high prices for stuff in the past:
1/ I think I'm comfortable enough with my "masculinity" to not feel the need to brag about "the great deal" that I got on every last little thing I own. Let's face it: Men actually brag the opposite way about how much they spent on their house...and there are a few other such examples.
2/ Sometimes, if I want something that is somewhat unavailable, it's quicker and easier just to buy one when available and be done with it, rather than putting tons and tons of energy into finding one at "just the right price"... $150 vs. $400...I think I can recover fairly quickly from spending an extra $250. Folks often spend $250 on DATES, and sometimes don't even get to see as much as what I've unfortunately seen of Janet Jackson.
3/ He wasn't the high bidder anyway. He may just find one for $20 bucks...or maybe one stuck into a $100 sousaphone next week...Who knows?
