I was perusing the Edwars website and figured sumthin out:

Alto=265

Tenor=302

LB Tenor=350

Bass=454

Look suspicious??? Maybe a bit of "bow-tie" reference?

Well I decided to classify my 6/4 frankenhorn as a Cat C-16.

Maybe we could do as follows:

F=4cyl. redardless of size

Eb=6cyl. regardless of size

"4/4" BBb's & CC's are 8cyl. regardless of size

Anything bigger is a 12 cyl or tractor trailer motor.

This way, we can still say we have a 4cyl but it is a 1.5l (Yamaha 621) or a 3.0l like Porsche used to make (Willson)

With the contrabasses we can then use relative bore ect in correspondence with the engine type, e.g. a Conn 52J would be a 283 or the like and a Mirafone would be a 400 or something.

I figure this is about as useful as most manufacturer's categorization of size. We can talk about changing the carb (mouthpiece) or intake manifold (leadpipe). That way we would sound more manly at tuba conventions.

I guess euphoniums would be lawnmower engines. Like the lawnmower, dual exhuast (double bell euph) would be more about looks than purpose.

Matt
