Both of these are good, but somewhat difficult choices. A few things to consider are that American Overture demands strong horns and the Hindemith requires very good tonqueing technique from the woodwinds and a strong trombone section. Both are very exciting to play, hear and conduct. Be careful with tempo on the Hindemith as most play it a bit too fast making the woodwind lines compress, and I heard one very good ensemble's bad conductor completely kill the piece by playing it way too slow.
Very good suggestions if the group can handle them.
