Think about what most trombonists in general think about equipment.

When you talk about "feel" I think this is what misleads them. The best sounding Bass T-Bone players I have ever heard, in regards to pure sound not volume, played on stuff like Conn 62H's. Even Mr. Yeo plays on a "smallish" bass trombone and sounds excellent. It even has rotary valves???!!!???!!!

Too many folks think a good brass sound is steamrolling the rest of the group.

I once asked in a clarinet master class (yes I went to a clarinet master class) what the player, a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, thought about playing with such a renowned brass section. He basically said that the most impressive part wasn't the loud stuff, but the purity and beauty of sound and control on the soft stuff. Their ability to balance when needed and their capacity to make music.

FWIW, I have played Meistersinger on a 5/4 Rudy. If I had the chance to play it again I would scrounge up some dough and find a good F. Even the intro sounds better on a F tuba, in my opinion.
