I have a 6 year old friend who is beginning on trumpet. I was encouraged by a couple of people who know what they are talking about to get him a Getzen Cornet to start on. Maybe it would be good for you to do the same. From there I bought a beginner band trumpet book from 1/2 price books and got to work. Seems to be going well
