for the little tike, you may want to consider a pocket trumpet. The jupiter doesn't play that badly actually. It is much shorter and more compact and easier for a the little kids to hold. I have had a few kids use them in the past. Either that or a cornet since the valves are closer to the mouth and the arms are not as extended and the horn will be easier to hold compared to a trumpet.
