i think you also need to realize that an inherent problem with compensating instruments is the force needed to play thru the more tubing and this alters the sound production... after discussing this with Sam Pilafian over the summer he said that a good way to help this problem and the unprojected harsh sound that the compensating horn (when the compensator is activated) gets is to do half valve exercises.
