Listen, transcribe, imitate, record yourself. Don't read solos somebody else transcribed, do it yourself, bass lines and solos. And not tuba players - go with bass, sax, trumpet, trombone, guitar. Ray Brown would be a good choice, for bass lines, swing feel, and soloing. If you learn to sound like Ray Brown you can't go wrong.
