But have any of you actually played all the Mozart horn concertos on a tuba? What about the Bach flute sonatas or cello suites? What about the Mozart bassoon concerto? Or the Vivaldi violin concertos? These are not novelty practise pieces; they are fantastic recital repertoire. And believe me, I've played all the genuine tuba stuff: the VW, Gregson, Effie, Encounters, Penderecki, Jacob Suite, Impromptus, John Williams, and all the studies etc. etc. etc. I own an extensive tuba library that has taken me over a decade to amass and now that I'm not even playing full time I still buy a tonne of sheet music because making music should be our primary goal -- and not novelty transcriptions. We should play everything written for tuba and as much as we can written for other instruments if we want to claim that we are musicians. Music doesn't begin and end with how loud you can play on a BAT.
