That piece is IMPOSSIBLE.  I have a recording of Steven Mead playing it with the London Philharmonic and it BLOWS MY MIND.  If you're thinking of playing it - or Billy Blowhard, for that matter - then you're probably a very accomplished player.  Even so, here are some tips:
- SLOW PRACTICE!  You'll never master this piece at tempo until you master it at quarter note equals 40 or so.  This will really help with the ridiculous technical passages.
- DON'T TRY TO LEARN IT ALL AT ONCE!  Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.  If you're going to conquer the Vandercook, you'll have to do it one small bit at a time.
Anyway, I'm sure you've heard these things before.  Good luck with it, and do send a recording if your recital isn't a huge fold.
