Craig:

I have a MW 46 of the vintage and setup you describe. The horn is very efficient and there is no pitch that cannot be played with either an alternate fingering or minor lipping (no slide pulling needed). The horn speaks easily, and for a German F, is very playable in the low register. Only "fault" would be that it is somewhat mouthpiece-sensitive.

This horn plays as well (for me) as many of the newer, and much more expensive F tubas, and I receive only compliments from those that have heard and / or played the horn.

Email if you have any other questions.
