Describing sounds is very subjective. The terms used are quite relative in that there are no exact terms that can be used. Terms often used to describe the German sound are "dark" and "rich", and that may be true but just what is a "dark" or "rich" sound, and even then, do only German tubas have those qualities? Then, how much of the sound quality can be credited to the instrument and how much to the player? Surely both play an important part in the equation. I think it's far more important for most of us to have a horn that plays well in tune in all ranges and let the German vs American vs Asian sound quality be argued over a beer. For what it's worth, the Miraphone 186 has "the German" sound quality.
