Speaking of big tuba projects, a few days ago I was in Dan Oberloh's shop, and he had two 6/4 tuba projects on the bench, both for the same client, who happens to be a BBb player. The first was a 6/4 BBb Martin (22" bell) with a smaller bore valveset. Looked like it was almost ready to go out for silver plating. The second is a big 'ol York 6/4 BBb body (I think also a 22" bell), with a brand spanking new Hirshy HB-50 valveset sitting there waiting to go in!! (Just try to get your hands on one of those...). Both horns were getting the full finish treatment. Who says guys won't spend big bucks on BBb tubas??
