I have found that the old 1960's/1970's Besson BBb 3+1's (assuming tight valves) have very good intonation and a noble sound...about as "stuffy" as a typical Mirafone 186. As long as someone is willing to mash the 4th valve with the left hand, embraces the compensating system, and is shopping for a BBb tuba, I give those old instruments a strong thumbs up.
