Didn't intend a sharp tone. I just checked the Shilke website, and it is THEY who have misattributed the identity of the horn player. Hugh Cowden was an earlier member, possibly a founding member of the CSBE. He was on their one commercial recording for a small independent Milwaukee firm, Audiophile Records, ca. 1950. Hugh was born in London and came to New York with his parents as a small child. He played with the CSO from just prior to Kubelik through Reiner's first season, as assistant 1st. He returned to New York around 1955 and free-lanced until he retired in the late '70s. He passed away in Honolulu some years ago. I've lost track of when. Hugh was succeeded by Wayne Barrington, who was in turn succeeded by Richard Oldberg, who appears in the Bozza on Arnold Jacobs: Portrait of an Artist.

One thing's for sure. If ol' man Shilke were around, that this mistaken identity wouldn't 'a happened.
