Grease the slides with some automotive grease and oil the valves with a medium weight (say 10W) automotive oil. The grease won't harden with age and the oil won't evaporate. You might also grease the threads on the valve caps too, so they don't seize.
Make sure that all the water is drained from all slides and crooks.
When it comes time to put it back into service, just use some lukewarm water and dishwashing liquid to clean up. Lube and grease as usual.
