I think you are mistaken as far as lacquer thickness.

No way! The brass sheet used on a tuba is typically 23 and 24 gage, .022 and .025 respectively.

Averages human hair is .002 thick.

I'm not buying your statement. I have done tests with lacquer thickness and found it to be .0015 inches thick maybe slightly more in some cases. unless you are measuring the thickness of the runs and drips on the new King tubas : ). You might want to reconsider sticking with that story. ; )
