You also might try using an dependent system where the fifth valve is placed ON the fourth valve tube. You can figure out the disadvantages. The advantege is that the instrument remains a free blowing four valver untill you get to the low end. If your worried about messing up your fourth valve forever, then replace that one tube entirely where the fifth valve set-up is installed and keep the original tube in a shoe box(whatever). Hate the sound?-change it back to the way it was. Love the sound?-keep the tube for a rainy day.
