Well, that wasn't my experience. Even with meticulous care, the first set of valve guides on my 621F wore out in less than a year of playing at a theme park. To their credit, Yamaha sent me (gratis) two sets of replacements. The replacements were the first examples of their second generation (this was around 1992). I still have one set in a baggie in my case. Matt replaced the guide on my first valve two years ago. Ten years isn't bad for plastic valve guides, and it's a huge improvement over the first generation material.
