I have a colleague/friend who uses "Mosaic" exclusively. Producing charts for professionals is his business. Carrie's posts are the first time I've heard someone else mention this lesser-known but capable piece of software.

I urge readers of this thread to bung the word "notation" into Sean's wonderful search facility and read the posts that helped me make my "informed decision".

I use Sibelius and Cubase Score VST. They are top-end programs.

The original premise of this thread was the "basic" end of the market. There you have Noteworthy (which my mother uses to transpose hymns into more playable keys for a part-time church organist), Cakewalk, and others.

As with the "which computer" question... this question of which notation software is always answered by another question: "It depends what you want to do."

It's worth thinking about that, because it doesn't take much to "outgrow" some of the more basic software.

My "second" $0.02 !
