The guy selling the Ziess is full of beans in every possible way! In answer to your question, it shouldn't cost more than $100 to ship a tuba anywhere in the country. It sounds as though he is trying to skin a few more bucks off his buyer. Check out UPS, Central Freight, Yellow Freight or even Amtrack as possible shipping sources.

I really don't think his horn was made in 1926. It looks to me like a typical Cerveny stencil horn, probably made about 20-25 years ago. So much about his description smells bad, even down to way he spells other tuba makers. Who ever heard of "Monel Weston" or "Marafone". One would have to assume he is talking about Meinl Weston and Mirafone and I have never head of any connection between Carl Ziess and these two instrument makeers. I would be very careful in dealing with this guy.
