Use Amtrak if possible (station-to-station; don't let the local delivery services handle it). Amtrak has a shipping policy that says musical instruments are charged actual weight, not volumentric. Shouldn't be more than $45 or so coast-to-coast.
After that, Greyhound (again, station-to-station if possible). Ship on "space available" rather than "next bus out" and it should cost about $50 coast-to-coast.
Finally, air freight (airport to airport). I shipped a tuba coast-to-coast on United and it cost about $100.
$400 to ship a tuba? By limo, maybe.
IMOHO, that Ziess doesn't look like a 1926 model to me either.
