Having a valve vented will allow you to adjust the slide for that valve before you push it down, without building up any air pressure that would "pop" when you do push down the valve. The shell of the piston, or casing if it is a rotary, will have a hole drilled in it that lets the pressure out. If your horn has a good scale and/or you're not one to do a lot of adjusting on the fly, you probably don't need to have this work done. In the minus column: If your slide works real freely, you may also need a catch of some kind to keep it from slipping off completely (usually the first slide, when you set the horn down and walk away) If this work is done well, there would be no effect on the valve's action or sealing qualities.
