I've had this sort of problem with my horn. The first valve slide gets "scratchy". Now The only thing that can be done (that I've heard of) is to scrub the the slide with a Scotch-Brite soaked in some water and dish soap, scrub in the direction that slide moves(down). I do this every time a slide becomes scratchy. Are your horns newer?; I have heard that this to do with the horn breaking in.
