The Hirsbrunner and Willson piston F's which I've played are fantastic. They are quite comfortable, have an even open response, and the pitch is excellent. They are big enough to use in an orchestra, but are just about perfect instruments for solos and quintet work, in my opinion. I'm not too familiar with Eb's, but I live near DC and I know that a significant number of the military players here either already have the Besson Eb's or are seriously considering them.
The Army conference this weekend would be an ideal opportunity to try out different horns, and hear them played by the pros.
