The purpose of the other bell was to emulate the trombone sound. You played the 5th valve with the left hand. Obviously, that valve swithed the air from bell to bell. Interesting creatures. I have seen old band music that actually dictates which bell to use, for example, the old Safranek edition of "Entrance of the Gods to Vahalla". I think all this info is correct, but product may settle during shipment.
