Misc. notes:

Howard Johnson played his Mahillon BBb. Said he may be going to Europe in the next few months to see if he can instigate getting these manufactured again. They might come back with his name on them, "if that will help sell them". He's a big believer in top-action piston valves for jazz.

Steven Sykes played his Friday solo on a lacquer Besson 982(!) - the big-bell parade horn. He played standing and used a floor stand. Did a lot of circular breathing.

Porter played his Friday solo on a PT-3.

Sverre Olsrud (sp?) got the most enthusiastic standing O Friday.

For the second year in a row - a real sensation was the jazz trombone playing of Harry Watters of the Army Blues jazz band. Last year he traded licks with Allred, this year with Johnson. Get his "brothers' CD - it's great!!!
