I agree with Jay on the specific mute for horn issue. I borrowed a friend's Peter Ganes brand mute a while back for my old Mirafone CC.... sounded like dung! A week later, I had a session gig for a new TV series that required a mute, as they tend to do. I was using my B&S Apollo for the session and that mute sounded amazing on that horn. Intonation was spot on, didn't touch the tuning slide and the sound was great. I used to think that mutes on tubas were always going to sound off. I've since come to realise that you really need to find the right mute for the right horn.
