If you're already in a group, why don't you talk to the other members about this? Maybe you could play at a coffee house or beer garden, or the local theatre, or for anniversaries or anything! You'll need to make sure you have a wide range of tunes that you can play, and add a little showmanship, too. Don't neglect the tuba's potential for comedy. If your current group is not what you had in mind, there is usually a bulletin board at the local music store where musicians contact each other, or you could even take out an advert in the local rag. Another great way is to go out and hear other groups play, and talk to them on their breaks. (don't ask to get on stage with them, or request "Free Bird" though...) You can make some good connections in the music scene just by hangin out at the right places, it's up to you to find them.
Good luck!
p.s. What area do you live in? Maybe someone on this BBS can give you more specific advice.
