I played a 188-5U for many years and enjoyed it. It has EXCELLENT intonation and has a lot of projection. It has a nice even sound and excellent response, I highly reccommend it, however they do vary from horn to horn.
There should be quite a few other people highly recommend it. I know that Tommy Johnson used one for many years playing in the studios in LA.
