Yes, Andy Griffith did play tuba in two episodes. One was when the town band was preparing to play in a competition in Raliegh. The other was when Andy, Barney and the gang decide to reorganize the band for a Sunday evening concert. Andy leads the rehearsal while playing the tuba. Andy Griffith was actually a low brass player and majored in music in college. He was a public school band director before his career as a country bumpkin comedian took off.
