The 2000 weighs in about 5 pounds lighter due to the hand hammering. As to the design differences, the platform is essentially the same except the 5th valve repositioning. The playing characteristic is going to be different on any musical instrument due to the materials used and the hand work in putting one together. Instruments mass produced are going to have less variation in playing characteristics than ones with a lot of hand work . The only way to know the difference is to play the different horns.

I purchased a model 2000 last summer at Dillon's and loved it on first try. I tried a Kalison, Willson, 2 - 2155's, and the 2000. This really is a case of personal preference as I use the instrument in an orchestra, brass quintet, and have soloed with it and love the playing characteristics in each situation.

That's why we have chocolate and vanilla. Not everybody likes the same thing.
