I have a few students who play/have played on YBB641 tubas and most have very good success with the Bach 18. My opinion is that the C4 might be too small for the type of playing you're doing. The C4 is a good solo mouthpiece and works very well on Eb/F tubas but that is just my opinion. The Bach 18 and the Standard Helleberg are excellent choices for a mouthpiece that is a "starting point". Very vanilla, if you know what I mean. Another mouthpiece you might try is a Wick 2L. One of my students (Walter Gomes) is using one on his Miraphone 191 and it is a really nice fit for that horn. It might work well with the Yamaha too. Good luck finding what works for your friend!
