I find that a bit of practice on a trombone works wonders for my range and endurance on tuba. Also, if you ever get to play bass bone in a reasonable (in my case university) orchestra, it's a great way to let off steam - all the dynamics seem to be either PPPP of FFFF, and our conductor likes trombones and keeps asking for more. And I get to sit next to the other tuba player instead of competing with them in the auditions (it's so much easier to beat the trombonists, but thats another story).

Unless your teacher has a strong reason not to, then go for it. I get a lot more night-club gigs that way (which are a whole lot of fun!).

James.
