I bought a York "Monster" Eepher specifically planning to try MY hand at fabbibg
a horn and cutting it to F. Had I discussed the idea with ANYone who has done
such extensive work before, they would have told me to forget it, that the monsters
do not lend themselves well to use on a custom horn. And really, nothing more than
the bell and bottom bow and maybe branch COULD be used. That tuba had a GREAT sound,
in fact it had several great sounds. When someone says a horn is "in tune" my teacher says "which note?" Get the picture? I sold the horn on e-bay, and the fellow who got it was real happy. I am sure it is being venerated as much as any pre-WW1 mass-produced tuba deserves!
