If you have a few hundred $$$ to spend, the path of least resistance might be to get the Miraphone "186" carriage bar, carriage rod (or homemade rod), 4 spatulas, and two mount posts w/bolts from Strege or Allied (via your repair guy) and link them to the valves (as Daryl suggested) with the adjustable tension Du-Bro links and some 4-40 stainless steel all-thread.

Let your repair guy do the whole thing for you. The Miraphone parts will cost him (wholesale) at least $300, and the hobby shop stuff at least another $25. Allow him to mark them up enough to make it worth his trouble and also to charge you a fair amount for his time. Considering the hours involved to do a really nice job, a total cost of $600 is certainly fair.
