The safest way to use it is to lay it down like a case. I have used my RB bag on its side and lifted the horn (VMI 3302) by the side tubing next to the bell. I never lift by any of the smaller tubing because of exactly what you have experienced. This horn is too heavy to be supported by any of the valve tubing. It takes some muscle to keep it balanced while removing it, but I have never had a problem.
