My teacher told me that he played a lot of auditions that were note-perfect, but he did not get advanced. When this happened a couple times he found that he was not getting advanced because he wasn't communicating anything musically.

He now has an amazing gig and has been on a few audition committees. He said that from the other side of the screen he has heard some great players who did not get advanced because they didn't make any musical statements.

He keeps telling me in my lessons that I am getting the notes fine but that I am not saying anything. From what my teacher has reported, I would say that "cold professionalism" is what is keeping many players from getting advanced.
