I soldered them on, and then kept on adding solder until the center of the nut was filled. I used regular propane from a hardware store, but it took some looking to find solder that still has lead in it, most of the stuff you see now does not. also the right kind of flux is impotant. It took almost a whole spool of solder to do all 4. I am new at this, but there are some very good web pages out there that explain the finer points of soldering. 6 months ago I didn't know what flux was.

And no, my caps were very plain, no screws, no fancy engraving, and no lacquer. I knew that I could not mess them up, because this process can be undone in minutes with a propane torch.
