As a very amateur tuba player who also has a YEP 321 which I am asked to use occasionally, I have found a Bach 12C to work for me. I have tried many different small shank mouthpieces, but for some reason I seem to be most comfortable on a 12C. It is a relatively shallow mouthpiece, but I have no problem with the low range on this. I have also used the DW 4AY with success, but am more comfortable with the 12C. I tried the 51D because I assumed that as a tuba player I would find a larger mouthpiece more comfortable, but I assume that I just don't have the chops to use it successfully and don't have the practice time to get them in shape.

For reference, I use a Helleberg style Dillon mouthpiece on my tubas and sousaphones. This is my experience and of course your mileage may vary.
