Two things:
1)I would just like to say that those stands, nicely dubbed a crotch stand in another entry, is invaluble to tubists like myself....6'5" tall. Most tubas are designed for people much shorter and it really helps posture and breathing. I would reccomend them to every player for reief of weight. Whether you think you are Hercules or not, it helps you to relax your breathing.
2)I bought a gardening kneeling pad and superglued the whole thing to my stand to replace the tearing pad. Then, I took a pair of super-sharp shears and cut off the excess. I used a clear, flexible epoxy to carefully seal off the edges. That replacement has lasted over 5 years.

The problem that I have is the stand bending from the tightening screws. In know that I am tightening it too hard, but it won't hold my tuba unless I do. I used a dremmel tool with an attachment for grinding to bend it back.
