You might want to try Music Ease. It is made so the novice can use it, but as with most programs of this type, the more you use it the more you can get it to do. I have used it for years through many upgrades. If you elect to buy, be sure to get the "Professional" version. It will produce copy equal to the best printed music. It too has the problem of not being able to always use a file created with a later version, but usually only to the extent the later features do not display. The nice thing about Music Ease is that you can download a trial version from their web site and see what you think of it yourself.
