In addition to the size and weight of an instrument like this, I suspect that the price would scare people away. If a 5v 186 costs nearly $1000 more than a 4v, then wouldn't a 7v be about 2k more than a 5v? Yes, people buy Hirsbrunners even though they cost significantly more than most tubas on the market. But developing a completely new (unproven) horn that will cost more than its competitors will not win many supporters. Also, as Mr. Young said, it does not blend well with the current 5v that nearly everyone is playing. This will scare away more people. While there is certainly a market for stuff like this (which would probably even grow as it is accepted), that market is probably too small to convince tuba manufacturers to put in the time, effort, and money necessary to design and build such a horn. How big a market would there be for 6/4 York copies if Jacobs hadn't brought about the widespread acceptance of that type of horn?
