I can't comment on why, but this is what I played in high school in the late 60s, early 70s and it was the sweetest sounding horn I had played. In my senior year the band director bought a Meinl-Weston 4 rotary valve horn for me to play, I think it was a model 20, and it had nowhere near the sound of the Besson. I remember the Besson, although a tall horn, was pretty light. The metal seemed relatively thin and delicate.
